ARAMIS CCD cameras aimed at a tensile test specimenARAMIS is a powerful system for inspecting complex materials and geometries for their deformation and strain during loading. This tool is highly robust and easy-to-use compared to other full-field, non-contact strain measuring tools. The system offers a non-contact and material independent determination of deformation and strain using three-dimensional video correlation methods and high-resolution digital CCD cameras.

The object under load is viewed by one or more high-resolution digital CCD cameras. A clearly visible (random or regular) structure showing a good contrast that has been applied to the object's surface, is deformed along with the object. The deformation of this structure under different load conditions is recorded by the CCD cameras and evaluated using digital image processing. The results are the 3D-displacement, the tangential strain and the component's contour.

Common uses include:

- Materials characterization of metallics, composites, ceramics
- FEM confirmation & boundary condition checking
- Fracture mechanics and Estimating stability
- Dimensioning components
- Examining non-linear deformation behavior
- Characterizing creep and aging processes
- High-speed deformation & strain measurements (application page)

Industries served:

- Aerospace: composite & advanced material studies, structural loading studies
- Automotive: manufacturing quality analysis & FEM confirmation
- Microelectronics: thermal expansion, PCB NDT & alignments
- Composites Manufacturing:quality control, failure analysis, material & structural properties (honeycomb failure .avi)
- Metal Forming: forming limit measurements
- Biomechanics: bone & tissue strains (application page)
- Civil Engineering: road materials analysis, soil loading
